At Nolla, we're committed to enhancing early detection and awareness of health through advanced technology.
Advanced Machine Learning
Our systems are based on Vision Transformers (ViT) and large multimodal models (LMMs), two types of deep learning algorithms that are exceptionally good at picking up patterns in images and information from our users to address their needs. Nolla's systems have learned from over 1M labeled cases across over 1600 classes, including hundreds of thousands of pigmented lesions, acne, hair loss, eczema, warts, dermatitis, rashes, infections, and much more. Using this data, we continuously build and improve on next-generation AI systems to augment mobile-first healthcare experiences that feel unobtrusive and carefully crafted across various disciplines in medicine (e.g., Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases, Oral Health, etc.).
Developed by MIT, Harvard, and Imperial College of London graduates, our AI/ML training and deployment pipelines aim to fully automate the most repetitive and time-consuming aspects of the patient information collection process in medicine while improving engagement through behavioral tracking and suggesting a pre-differential even before a visit begins. Our work builds on top of work published in prestigious scientific journals by our scientific team, such as Science Translational Medicine (Soenksen, L.R. et al. 2021), Nature NPJ Digital Medicine (Soenksen, L.R. et al. 2022) and Nature Medicine (Groh, M. et al. 2024).
AI Models
Nolla’s proprietary AI foundational modules can be used in tandem or as a stand-alone offering to streamline bottlenecks in synchronous and asynchronous visits; these include:
1. Image Quality Assessment for user-provided photos. Great photos "every time"
2. Automated facial recognition with prediction of photoage, phototype, and personal skin color pallet.
3. Skin condition severity tracking (i.e., Acne scoring, etc.)
4. Dynamic Q&A based on presentations and patient information (i.e., images, text, etc.) to pre-collect relevant information before interaction with physicians.
5. Automated flagging of potentially malignant or severe skin conditions. Nolla Health´s models assign a risk percentage to every input, balancing sensitivity and specificity. Get actionable results to help your providers keep you healthy through monitoring, telehealth visits, or in-person care.

Our models help doctors make more informed decisions and improve your health outcomes.
Safety and Precautions
Please note our apps are not diagnostic tools, you can read more about this in our Terms & Conditions. While they can provide preliminary risk assessment, tracking, and more, the safest course of action for any medical concerns you have is always to consult a certified dermatologist or a healthcare professional. For convenience, our app includes a feature to directly book doctor’s appointments.
Your Health in Your Hands
Through Nolla, we aim to empower you with timely information about your health, helping you make informed decisions about when to seek professional advice. Remember, early detection and tracked treatment play a critical role in effectively managing health and can potentially save your life and the lives of the ones you love.
